Build understanding alongside exam skills
The Foundation-First Method connects Read → Understand → Play → Create. For an exam student, that means reading a rhythm accurately, understanding the musical idea, applying it in a piece or written question, and using that knowledge independently.
Guided exercises, appropriate practice tasks and individual feedback help focus the work between lessons. Past papers, timed practice and mock questions can be used where suitable for the syllabus.
What the first month may involve
- Review current understanding, previous study and the requirements of the chosen route.
- Work on foundation gaps alongside relevant pieces, exercises or written topics.
- Review practice, identify the next priorities and discuss readiness for future exam entry.
The pace and material depend on the student. A month of lessons does not promise exam readiness.

Fee guidance
Group lessons are LKR 6,000/month for four 2-hour lessons. One-to-one lessons are LKR 24,000/month for four 2-hour private lessons. The suitable format is confirmed after reviewing the student's age, level, goals and schedule.

Which examination boards can lessons support?
Preparation is available for ABRSM, London College of Music (LCM) and Trinity College London where relevant to the student's subject and route. Share your board, grade and syllabus when enquiring so Hashini can confirm the support available.
Do I need to be ready for an exam before joining?
No. Lessons can begin with the foundations you need for your chosen pathway. If you already have an intended session or exam date, discuss it when enquiring so preparation needs and readiness can be reviewed realistically.
Can I prepare online?
Online preparation is available where the subject, level, materials and student setup make it suitable. A stable connection and clear camera and audio setup are needed. In-person teaching is also available in Kandy, subject to schedule.
Can theory and practical preparation happen together?
Yes, where appropriate. Theory can support the student's understanding of the pieces they play, while practical examples help make written topics clearer. The lesson plan depends on the student's current foundation and syllabus.
Are examination passes or distinctions guaranteed?
No. Previous student results are examples of past achievement. Results depend on the student's preparation, practice, readiness and the external examination process.
Who sets the syllabus, entry rules and deadlines?
The examination board sets its own current requirements, entry rules, fees and deadlines. Lessons provide preparation and entry guidance where appropriate. Confirm the current requirements for your chosen board and session before entering.
